HOW TO HANDLE DEPRESSION?
Read through to understand the pain of depression and obtaining the power to overcome it.
WHAT IS DEPRESSION?
Theoretically, Depression is defined as continuous feeling of sadness and loss of interest. But, in actual case we will not even realise that something is wrong with us. According to me, depression is an emotional state in which we will start to hate everything that we used to like and just feel like running away from everything ,even from our-self!
It won't be as dramatic as we see in films but the painful smile will be so realistic that even people who are there with us always might not figure it out; some sort of strange voidness all around etc, etc.
WHAT CAUSES DEPRESSION?
Though we all have unique life and own up&downs, I think "We all are fighting in the same battlefield with different demons." Researches says that there are various reasons like family history, environment in which we had grown, physical and mental insecurities like appearance, talents, achievements, recognition etc; trust issues and failed relationships; financial well-being etc,etc are various causes for depression.
To generalise, it is mostly of two things.i.e. PAST INCIDENTS and EXPECTATIONS.
Firstly, due to revolving around the past incidents. Few incidents which happened in our childhood or further may remain as burning scars even now. Although time had passed, the impact may seem to reduce slowly but deep inside still the bitter experiences will never fade away. People who have such issues may look absolutely fine from outside but only they know how hardly they are striving with it.
Secondly, expectations. We always like to be joyful, comfortable and to be far from bitter realities. Expectations had always helped us to be like this by taking us into a dream land but it cannot last long. When reality strikes, it hurts. Depending upon the intensity of our expectations, the pain that we encounter varies.
CONSEQUENCES OF DEPRESSION:
" All the flowers in my garland,
had shrunk into wilted petals
Was hoping for a beautiful blossom,
but all I have is just
a pale, dried and died wreath!
It was not just a thread of flowers,
for me it meant my dreams
all the colours were faded
even I cannot feel the fragrance!
Why did this happen to me? Why me??
Now, for me even sunshine looks
like the flame that burnt my dreams,
Neither dew drop can delight me
coz it cannot give back life
Nor rainbows can fascinate me
coz I already became colourblind!"
-Sivambika
This is how depression feels like. It takes some time firstly to believe that all our fantasies had become lifeless. The struggle gets worse day by day and eventually develop a nature of hopelessness; even a step may seem like unreachable heights; will feel so weak and drained though by sitting ideally.
And one of the most strange but true trait is people who are at their extreme will become workaholic.i.e. being busy in something and just trying to escape from everyone/everything. In most severe circumstances, it may also lead to suicide.
HOW TO HANDLE DEPRESSION?
From Devdas to Kabir singh, most of them thinks that being alcoholic, drug addict, growing beard and narrating sad stories are symbols for a depressed person. But according to me, the ones who are pretending to be happy in front of their beloved ones to make them too happy are truly suffering and others all are just using their failure as a name tag to do all these. Remember you will be known as humans only until you fight with demons and not when you let your problems to develop a beast out of you.
"An evil will never become a solution for bad"!
Thus, the real solution is overcoming your causes of depression. If you feel, whatever happened in past is cruel, injustice then remember the law of universe.i.e "Nothing is permanent"; neither happiness nor depression. If it is your regrets, insecurities, mistakes...., firstly never run from it, just turn round and have courage to face it, accept your flaws and embrace yourself. Always be kind to yourself, make your peace of mind and yourself as the biggest priority than anything/anyone.
Then comes expectations! dealing with this is difficult but not impossible. If you ponder, only the expectations which you had on other individual or a group had hurted you not something which you had for yourself! Suppose, your expectation was on any lifeless things, then maybe this time you failed and not always or the next time. Have hope! Learn from your obstacles, make it as you opportunities.
Apart from all these, the massive problem in depression is 'Hating our-self'. This will shake your overall existence and when the mind and soul is not in peace you cannot take any fruitful decision. The best solution is to "forgive yourself". Keep in mind, we all are humans and it's perfectly alright to make mistakes. Just make sure you never repeat it further.
Whenever you feel so, just think about your parents who had fought and is still fighting thousands of hurdles everyday, not for their selfish but for your happiness, your well-being and comfort. Think about small kids who don't know what is cigarette, drugs etc and is still striving from chronic diseases like cancer etc; Think about children who were abandoned from obtaining education....., Even after all these if you still think that you have big reason than this to be depressed, then I would say that's because of your selfishness.
CONCLUSION:
I always believe "Whatever happened, happening and is about to happen is all for good". Take it that way, be positive. I hope my words gave some useful insights.
