INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM - PREVAILING DIFFICULTIES & PAVING DEVELOPMENT

One of the most valuable asset which cannot be destroyed by any means is only "education". From ages, the only abstract idea that had never changed by any revolution is Imparting education for obtaining development. The art of learning and preaching knowledge had always seen as a moral and ethical process that paved way for a better future. However in this era, even education is becoming a popular business without standards and solutions.

What kind of differences and difficulties do students face in the existing Indian Educational System? Can we successfully conquer them? Read through to discover answers by pondering wisely with my words!

Fact Vs Fiction:

In India, there are more than 10 lakh schools, 40,000 colleges, and 900 universities in total (including private and public sectors) which were increased tremendously after Education has become a fundamental right. Every year over 95% of students are getting passed in their high school, over 2 crore students are graduated…, Well, fair enough India is developing greatly. But have you ever wondered if all these are true, then

Why still the unemployment rate is 23%? Why still many poor couldn't even think about affording an education? Why millions and millions of kids are still caged under child labor? Why India always serve as a host for foreign technologies and industries instead of developing its own? Why girls are still denied to pursue education? Why we don’t think and analyze instead are just following someone/something? Why?

The main reason behind all these is the concern was only on quantity and enrollment than the quality and affordability. All the aforesaid data is true, along with that there are few more facts which are often unnoticed. Around 31% of teachers in government schools are not graduates, 40% of schools function without electricity and poor infrastructure, 25% of teachers are absent every day and unavailability of transport facility, etc. many students who finished their graduation still don’t know how to apply it or think about it; Thus, many just settle over whatever jobs they get and compromise their dreams.

Far from reality:

Here, My motive behind this article is not to feel pity for such an awful situation instead I want my readers to realize how far are they from this reality and think and respond than just feeling empathic and whispering "What can we do? After all, we are normal people…." The truth is we all are connected with education, society, and growth somehow and only we can make the change that we want to come!

Can we ever imagine a classroom without chairs and tables, lights, fans? Without a playground? Obviously not right? Now, am not narrating only about government schools/colleges even many private and govt.aided schools/colleges too are in such condition. Without a proper learning environment, how can a student concentrate on studies? Alright! Leaving material things the bigger cruelty is the absence of dedicated teachers. This problem exists all over and since in government many perks are allowed, in many circumstances they take it for granted and that’s where the problem starts.

Many management and officials had started to see education as a  profitable business than moral. Next syllabus! For wealthy children who can afford even many lakhs on such international institutes and standards study ICSE; For the next stage it is CBSE; even less standard and fees? It is matriculation, that too again split into English and native languages! What else??!! Now few will say, it is their choice and priority to give freedom to make choices. But for me, it suits only to the upper-class people, and for the needy people they cannot even choose what they need.., and where do they think about what they want!

We say India is a democratic country i.e. of the people, by the people and for the people right? But pondering all these things it seems like the 'people' referred is only the ones with power, position, and money and not for a common citizen of the country. If so, then why are their rights ceased from choosing and obtaining the best when we say education is fundamental to all?

What to do?

( In this article, am not specifying about any laws/reforms to be made. As it may seem quite lengthy, will do a separate article about that)

Previously, we saw that the major problem is poor infrastructure. Don't think India is a poor country so can afford only this much! Almost 4.1% of GDP is allocated for education purposes per year. Where does all that money go? Every year and some private institutes probably for every term charge various fees like miscellaneous fees, academic fees, establishment fees, etc etc. All the parents who are reading this, at least do you know the reason behind these giant words? Have you ever questioned the management? I can hear many murmuring “No” inside yourselves!

Without questions how can we expect answers?

A complete ‘Mental Revolution’ is needed! We think it is an honor, to say that my child is studying in so&so institute but remember never put their lives in stake especially in education just to satisfy mere ego; Some may even think that they didn't have such options at least they should offer all the joy and comforts to their children…, again, think wisely what you think is best, is truly “The Best”?

Everyone wishes to be successful; that's fine but all am saying is success doesn't depend on the institute they study or how much amount you pay. It's all about passion and hard work. We need a decent learning environment and faculties but that's just to support the existing talent. If you really want your children to be successful then first identify their interest, let them pursue it with good assistance. This will automatically lead them to success.

To all the respected teachers, higher authorities, managements, and officials who were once unable to afford education and now are in this position because of iconic leaders and their policies and a passionate teacher are you all doing justice to your jobs really? The time has come to question!!! A charitable work turned into business is fine, But even business has social goals in its long-run whereas many institutes out here see only profit as their goals that is the problem.

Do all the concepts like Right to equality, Right to justice, secularism just exists only in books? If these many standards and stereotypes in education system, syllabus prevails in reality then how can we expect a rational mind for better future only by reading and writing these theories in exams?

Last but not the least, To all the students let it be whatever, let it be whoever pulling you down never give up! Focus on what you want rather than what you don't have, the best comes when you realize the true potential of everything which you already have. Thus, make the fullest use of it and once you become successful contribute your best to this society. Think big, follow your passion, work for it, and crave to grow.

Conclusion

Remember all the properties and things may get vanished as time passes, all the riches and gold may lose their value, why? Even humans and nature may transform and become old but the only thing in this world, which stays constantly and can never be stolen is knowledge.

Education provides learning and learning provides knowledge. Obtain the true essence of knowledge, as always said change is the only thing that never changes. So let's be the change we want to see in this world!
